Lake Powell

I had a great time at Lake Powell over the 24th. It was one of those trips that things just come together and ends up being almost magical at times. We found a great camp spot, the weather was perfect and everyone was happy.

Levi and I left for Kanab a little later than we wanted but it worked out fine. The drive down was pretty painful, at least to Beaver because we had just done the same drive two days before. After we turned off the main highway it got a lot better because the scenery was incredible between the turn off I-15 and Kanab. I didn’t realize it had been so long since the last time I drove that road. There is great fly-fishing, Bryce, Hole in the rock road and a ton of other stuff in this area and I suddenly wanted to stop and see everything again.

We met up with everyone and spent the night in Kanab at the RV park Lindsey’s parents own. They were nice enough to let us crash on a good piece of grass next to the road, which was perfect. We left early the next morning and met up with Hal at the Antelope Marina. I think the first bag he passed up to be loaded on the boat was a giant bag of golf balls, which completely confused Ken and I but he quickly cleared it up by saying, “Don’t worry, I brought a driver” I think I laughed about that most of the trip.

As soon as we we’re loaded and underway I felt some solace. I know I’m a little hard to read at times but this was more that just fun for me, it was the first time I was able to breath in six weeks. All of a sudden I was separate from my disaster and left to feel a little joy. The rest of the trip was more or less a continuation of this with no real drama, perfect weather, and a whole lot of sun.

It was weird to be at the other end of the lake, we usually launch from Bullfrog, but I liked it. The canyons were not as narrow and it left huge expansions to be seen close to sunset that were incredible. We still made Rainbow Bridge and Dangling Rope for Ice cream so it was a good mix of old and new. Also worth noting is the huge cliffs we all jumped off, vista golfing, Cooper all grown up, Lexi’s poor lips, and my new nick Levi Senior. How’d that happen?

Lake Powell Trip

Decided at the last minute to head to Lake Powell and meet up with the family for some fun. Angela and Levi couldn’t go so I just drove down solo on Friday night.

Traffic was great and it only took me four hours to get there. I drove straight through to Bullfrog and slept in the back of the Yukon in the parking lot, which was pretty cool. I had a couple of beers and watched the stars for a long time. I always forget about the night sky and how obscured it is living in the city. Lake Powell is such a great area to see the stars and once again I was completely mesmerized by them. It was really nice to actually be able to see so many stars and the milky way.

I woke up early the next morning and Ken, Kori and Cooper had come along to pick me up at the dock. We took a short drive back to the camp, which I was glad wasn’t to far because I was worried about making them drive forever and back just to get me for one day on the boat.

The campsite pretty much perfect with shade much of the morning, which is really hard to come by at the lake, and was hidden back away from the main channel so we didn’t get any waves etc. Not long after we got back to camp Alexa and Abby woke up and came down to say hello. It was really good to see everybody in this setting again. Its been a while since I tagged along.

We made breakfast and then headed out for some sightseeing. We did some small hike to a crack canyon, jumped off cliffs, rode the water toys and just had a great time in general. I was only there for a day and night but I would say it was well worth it and had a great time.

The drive back was torture as I was really tired and I was really glad Cooper decided to ride with me because he kept me awake with some good jokes. ;)

Bear Lake Family Reunion

Bear Lake pictures are here. We have always heard Max and Cathy talk about going to Bear Lake and now we know why! The cabin and area in general is fantastic. What a great place to relax and have some fun.

We pretty much just played in the water and had tons of fun with the family. It was really good to see everyone, it’s been a while.
